Write in to support Teen Turf ‘makeover’

Recently, Teen Turf in Amboy applied to ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” with an extensive written and video application. While those things might win over the producers, letters written from a supportive community wouldn’t hurt the cause at all.

Teen Turf is housed in the old Boehle Implement dealership, a building more than 50 years old. Much work is needed, including a new heating system, a new roof, exterior paint, new windows and doors, a new foundation, and so much more. In fact, so much is needed to make Teen Turf an even better place for our community youth, we are praying for an “extreme makeover” – a whole new building.

Granted, Teen Turf is more than a building. It is the people who volunteer their time, the youth who attend after-school programs, summer camps, and participate in service projects. It is the people who seek assistance from Amboy’s very own Eileen Piper. Her open, good heart always seems to have room for one more, and in the short time we worked together on this application, I came to appreciate and admire her strength and stamina.

Amboy is very fortunate to have an organization like Teen Turf that offers programs and, at times, a meal for youths at virtually no cost. There are many larger towns and big cities that do not offer their children this type of opportunity.

Please pick up a pen or tap on a keyboard and write to ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.” Tell them why they need to come back to northern Illinois and make over Teen Turf.

Letters are due Nov. 20 at Teen Turf, 235 Main St., P.O. Box 321, Amboy, IL 61310, or feel free to send a letter directly to Lock & Key Productions, c/o Family Casting, P.O. Box 38670, Los Angeles, CA 90038.

Note to readers – Katie Pratt has recognized the work Teen Turf does and has nominated it for the makeover.
