Garrett Butts

KEWANEE – Garrett E. “Garry” Butts, 41, of Kewanee, formerly of Sterling, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2009, at his residence in Kewanee.

Garry was born Nov. 17, 1967, in Sterling, the son of Rowan E. and Lynne R. (Ashpole) Butts. He attended the Prophetstown and Sterling schools and earned his GED while serving in the Navy. He enjoyed fishing and camping. He was actively involved with his children’s activities and enjoyed watching them play sports and working on cars with them. His children were the most important part of his life. He was a baptized member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Sterling. He served on the USS Midway when he was in the Navy. He was employed by Kress Corp. of Brimfield as a welder for 14 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Chandra (Thomas) Hamilton of Sterling; three sons, Tyler, Nicholas and Christopher Butts, all of Kewanee; his parents, Rowan and Lynne Butts of Rock Falls; a brother, Steve (Colleen) Butts of Rock Falls; one niece; and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, at McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, Sterling. Cremation rites will be accorded with burial at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Prophetstown. Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

A memorial has been established.
