DIXON – A benefit featuring live music, dinner, auctions and raffles will be held Saturday at the VFW to raise money for a 29-year-old single mother with cancer.

Mary Schmall, of Dixon, has leiomyosarcoma. She has undergone chemotherapy and radiation at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., said her mother, Cindy Dehart, of Dixon.

“She’s doing pretty well,” but is unable to return to work at Donaldson Co., and her insurance doesn’t cover all the expenses for her and her 3-year-old son, Max, Dehart said.

The benefit begins at 4 p.m. at Post 540, 1560 Franklin Grove Road. Admission is $5 for ages 6 and older.

There will be a deejay; the bands Rif Raff and Time Bandits will perform, and there will be games and Wacko the Clown to entertain the kids.

Hamburger and hot dogs meals will be available for $2; there will be a silent auction of gift baskets and other items; a live auction featuring a 3-day getaway to White Pines State Park; a 50/50 drawing and a raffle for a compound bow and a flat-screen TV.

Those who can’t attend the benefit but still want to help can make checks payable to Mary Schmall Benefit, and send them to Cindy Dehart, 752 Levan Road, Dixon, IL 61021, or to Amcore Bank.
