DIXON – The Crystal Cork Art Quarterly will present its sixth quarterly show, “Her World,” featuring watercolor paintings by Illinois Watercolor Society Signature member Judy Dixon.

Opening reception is 6-8 p.m. Friday at The Crystal Cork Wine Shoppe, 219 W. First St., in downtown Dixon. The show runs from Friday through Jan. 31.

Dixon was born in Dixon and went to college at University of Illinois. Classes in drawing and watercolor at Sauk Valley Community College led her to paint many local scenes.

Dixon considers the highlights of her career the selection of two of her paintings for Purchase Awards by the Phidian Art Club in 1993 and 2009, as well as Best of Show in 1982. Other awards include those from the Illinois Watercolor Society and national juried exhibitions. She was awarded Signature status in the Illinois Watercolor Society in 1998, after receiving top awards in several shows. She also was selected by U.S. Rep. Bill Foster to paint an ornament for the White House Christmas tree in 2008.

“Her World” includes watercolor paintings of scenes from Dixon’s travels in the United States and France. She fell in love with France after receiving a trip there as a 60th birthday gift. She found the modern use of ancient buildings inspiring. Rather than knocking down the centuries-old buildings, the French modernize the interior and retain the charm of the old architecture.

The Crystal Cork Art Quarterly is a cooperative endeavor between the people at The Crystal Cork, Trein’s Jewelry and Distinctive Gardens. The groups provide the community with a visual arts venue offering quarterly exhibitions of area and regional artists’ works.
