COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

Sauk’s season ends in Moline

The Sauk Valley Skyhawks’ volleyball season came to an end Wednesday at the Region IV Tournament in Moline.

Sauk lost to host Black Hawk 28-26, 12-25, 25-19, 25-23. Kaitlyn Kielsmeier led the way with 14 kills and 15 assists, while Shelby Caudillo (19 digs) and Maryssa Howell (14 digs) led the defense.


CROSS COUNTRY

Brevitt earns honor at NIU

Breanna Brevitt, a junior from Dixon, was named the Northern Illinois University female scholar athlete of the week on Tuesday.

A physical education major with a 3.519 grade point average, Brevitt helped the NIU women’s cross country team place eighth in the 12-team Mid-American Conference Championships on Saturday in Athens, Ohio. It was the Huskies’ best finish since 1981.

Brevitt finished 69th overall with a time of 25 minutes, 2 seconds. She was the fifth Husky to cross the finish line.

Two other area runners competed for NIU. They were Newman’s Amanda Trancoso (28:12) and Sterling’s Jackie Sciacero (31:27).


YOUTH BASKETBALL

Hot Shot competition is Saturday

Coloma Township Park District will sponsor its 31st annual Hot Shot basketball competition on Saturday at Merrill School in Rock Falls.

It begins at 1:30 p.m. and is open to boys and girls ages 8-18. Entry fee is $1.
