Just put no-turn sign where it’s supposed to be

In response to Jeff Cutter’s letter on Oct. 29 titled “Police are just doing their jobs,” Cutter mentions a few times how dangerous making the “illegal” left turn is, yet the police let the drivers make the turn and only then gave them tickets.

If it was so dangerous, how do you figure police are “serving and protecting” by allowing this to happen? Why not have them directing traffic to avoid the dangerous condition? Maybe because there’s no revenue in doing so? (Although many other intersections do not even have turn lanes, and somehow people make turns OK.)

As for the mentioned signs, there were two signs; one on each side of the road to let people know that the turn lane was closed – not that you couldn’t make a left turn, only that it was closed.

Then a couple blocks from the intersection itself, there was one sign on the left that said not to turn there and to proceed to the next light to make the turn. If you are maneuvering in traffic and paying attention as you should be to traffic, you could miss a single sign. To then call these people irresponsible drivers for missing the one sign is uncalled for.

And then as you were going by the turn lane, there were three signs in the lane that had an arrow that was crossed off, which could have meant that, again, you couldn’t use that lane to turn.

At the intersection itself, with all lights working, there was no sign that said a left turn was not permitted. If you don’t want people to turn at an intersection, then there should be at least a sign at the intersection saying so. Is that so hard?

We don’t need a brass band or fire trucks – just put the sign where it’s supposed to be.
