STERLING – Robert E. “Bob” Kunde, 84, of Sterling, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at his residence.

Bob was born March 24, 1925, in Sterling, the son of Frank Herman and Bertha Louise (Dettman) Kunde. He married Lucille Maxwell on Aug. 31, 1947, in Coleta.

He worked for Geyers of Rock Falls, for about 17 years, and farmed in the rural Sterling area for 37 years, retiring in 1986. He also worked at Purina Farm Service of Galt, for many years while he farmed. He was a member of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling, where he served as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a former officer for the Whiteside County Farm Bureau. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Sterling; one daughter, Carolyn Wasmund of Coleta; one son, James (Betty) Kunde of Sterling; four grandchildren, Suzanne Syverson, John R. Wasmund, and Christopher P. and Courtney M. Kunde; three stepgrandchildren, Jason and Lucas Weidman and Amanda Ludwa; three great-grandchildren, Brennan and Colin Syverson and Sebastian James Kunde; and four step-great-grandchildren, William, Tristan, Jayden, and Mikaylla Weidman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, John L. Wasmund; his sister, Dolores Glenn and his brothers, Raymond “Mike” and Richard “Dick” Kunde.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Patrick Pinion officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
