POLO – William Ryan Jenkins, 76, of Polo, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at CGH Medical Center. He was a retired teacher and coach, teaching in the Manlius School District from 1956 to 1965; and in Polo School District from 1965 to 1995.

Mr. Jenkins was born May 7, 1933, in Seattle, the son of William L. and Catherine E. “Kate” (Ryan) Jenkins. He married Eleanor Quayle on June 27, 1953, at Visitation Church, Kewanee.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Terry (Pam) Jenkins of Polo and Tim (Libby) Jenkins of Springfield; two daughters, Kalah Jenkins of Geneva and Kathy (Mark) Scholl of Polo; a sister, Ann (Bob) Hartman of Carmel, Ind.; a brother, Marty Jenkins of Edwardsville; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother-in-law, Nina Nelson Quayle; his father-in-law, James C. Quayle; a niece; and a nephew.

Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Polo, with the Rev. Ed McGrath officiating, with burial at 3 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Kewanee. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Polo Community High School.

At families’ request, please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne and or scented lotions, due to a family medical condition.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
