MOUNT MORRIS – Samuel Curtis Duncan, 90, of 405 W. Center St., Mount Morris, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at his home. He was employed by Kable Printing, Mount Morris, as a master operator in the bindery department for 47 years.

Curtis was born Aug. 22, 1919, in Jonesboro, Tenn., the son of Samuel Brooks and Nora Lake (McKee) Duncan. He married Rachel M. Stover on June 10, 1939, in Garber, Iowa. Curtis served in the Navy aboard the battleship USS Idaho in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member of Church of the Brethren, Mount Morris, Graphic Arts International Union Local 65B, Oregon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8739, Mount Morris American Legion Post 143, and a charter member of Mount Morris Rifle and Pistol Club.

Curtis was the role model of a loving husband and devoted father. He so enjoyed his hobby farm and teaching his children and grandchildren his knowledge of growing a variety of plants.

Survivors include his wife, Rachel; two sons, Kenneth (Joyce) Duncan of Mount Morris and Danny (Linda) Duncan of Lake Summerset; two daughters, Norlene (Edward) Weinberg of Mount Morris and Debra (Bruce) Kenny of Rockton; one sister-in-law, Lola Duncan of Mount Morris; 10 grandchildren, Lynette (Ken) Van Lerberghe of Carol Stream, Timothy (Nieves) Duncan of Zionsville, Ind., Douglas Duncan of Davis, Darren (Michelle) Duncan of Livermore, Colo., Jennifer (Gerald) Miller of Goshen, Ind., Rick (Kelly) Weinberg of Wheaton, David Weinberg of DeKalb, Chris (Carrie) Kenny of Machesney Park, Laurie (Brandon) Miller of O’Fallon, and Andrea (Adam) Muhs of Chicago; and 16 great-grandchildren, Logan, Kaden, and Aaron Van Lerberghe of Carol Stream, Emily Duncan of Zionsville, Ind., Shelby, Morgan, and Brock Duncan of Davis, Addison Weinberg of Wheaton, Noah and Duncan Kenny of Machesney Park, Andrew and Jacquelynn Miller of Goshen, Ind., and Kayla, Devon, Isabella, and Taylor Miller, all of O’Fallon.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Frank Duncan, Robert Duncan, and James Duncan; and two sisters, Hattie Belle Jones and Nellie Kimery.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Church of the Brethren, Mount Morris, with the Rev. Richard G. Bright, chaplain of Pinecrest Manor, Mount Morris, officiating.

Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Mount Morris. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church. Arrangements were completed by Finch Funeral Home, Mount Morris.
