Sad that ‘gorgeous’ bear was hunted, killed

I was so sad to read that the gorgeous 450-pound bear, pictured in the Oct. 24 SVN Weekend Sports section, had been needlessly killed in order to give a local man what must have been a real ego trip.

Of course, bear hunting is an honored American tradition from back in the days when bears were a danger to people and also a source of much-needed food and warm furs. But isn’t it a different story today, when wild animals are herded into areas where high-paying hunters are allowed to kill them just for the fun of it?

Surely, Mr. Heinze must be a heck of a shot with a bow and arrow ... something to be proud of. If only he would shoot at targets instead of God’s creatures.

If I were Mr. H., I would have a hard time living with the mounted heads of my victims on the walls of my house, but that’s just me. It apparently doesn’t bother him, though he must realize that all the animal remnants in his house are dead, dead, dead.

Let’s just hope that he and his family are going to eat that bear meat and cover up with the fur at night so that the beautiful bear won’t have died totally in vain.
