Big thank you to supporters of successful tulip campaignBy Betty Clementz, SterlingThe American Cancer Action Network campaign to sell at least 10,000 tulip bulbs, to represent the 10,000 people to be diagnosed in Illinois this year with breast cancer, was a huge success. More than 11,000 bulbs were sold in our region, along with memberships to ACSCAN, the advocacy sister organization to the American Cancer Society. When bulbs were distributed in October, this campaign to promote breast cancer awareness and the need for screenings reached more than 200 people in Whiteside County. A huge thank you is extended to the sponsors of this campaign, CGH Medical Center for hosting the kickoff and distribution, and the Daily Gazette and WSDR for all their support for publicity. A special thank you goes to the many volunteers who gave of their time to distribute the bulbs. And, most of all, a special thank you goes to every one of the more than 200 buyers of the bulbs. Next spring, when these bulbs are blooming, it will be a reminder of what each pink tulip symbolizes. Note to readers – Betty Clementz is chairwoman of the Plant It Pink Campaign. Comments
