Petition available to put tax rate hike on ballot

To the residents in the Sterling rural fire district area (including Como, Indian Ridge, Emerson, Galt, Penrose, Prairieville, and surrounding farms):

Do you remember the Boston Tea Party? Do you remember why it occurred? Do you want the opportunity to have your voices heard on taxation that directly affects you?

Your tax rate for rural fire protection will become almost 2.5 times the current rate, without being on the election ballot or allowing you to vote upon this issue (from the current 12.37 cents per $100 equalized assessment property value, to 30 cents per $100 EAV). Unless we assemble a petition with at least 464 signatures, this increase will occur automatically.

My proposal is this: I will bring a petition to anyone who wants to sign it and ensure this unrealistic tax rate increase is placed on the February ballot so the people can actually vote on it.

Ensure that your voice is heard on taxation. Call me at 815-625-4834 or e-mail me at anmlcrkr@gmail.com, and I will bring this petition for you to sign.
