Police: Seven 'street dealers' charged in Dixon

DIXON – Dixon Police say they are cracking down on drugs, one dealer at a time.
“Operation 420,” a 15-month investigation into the sale of marijuana in Dixon, netted seven arrests Thursday.
In all, officers say, they confiscated roughly 260 grams marijuana with a street value of $2,600.
The weed was sold by the seven to confidential police informants during the course of the investigation, Sgt. Matt Richards said.
The drug investigation was the department’s first in which all charges related to the sale of marijuana, Richards said.
All seven, none of whom appear to be connected, are small-time “street dealers,” he said.
Marijuana sales are nothing new to Dixon, the department just wanted to crack down on perhaps the most easily accessible drug in the area, he said.
“Cocaine and heroin tends to be harder to get here in Dixon,” Richards said. “It’s always been a little easier to get cannabis ...”
No more arrests from the investigation are expected.
The accused, and their charges:
n Joshua P. Carroll, 22, 1024 Franklin Grove Road, two counts each of delivery of 10-30 grams of marijuana and possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
n Trevor M. Childers, 19, 523 W. Third St., two counts each of possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana and possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, a misdemeanor.
n Chandra J. Germanson, 22, 609 Spruce St., delivery of 30-500 grams of marijuana and possession of 30-500 grams of marijuana.
n A Dixon boy, delivery of 10-30 grams of marijuana and misdemeanor charges of possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, delivery of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana, and possession of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana.
n Patrick Linscott, 20, delivery of 10-30 grams of marijuana and misdemeanor counts of possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, delivery of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana, and possession of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana.
n Arthur T. Piper, 21, 1722 W. Second St., delivery of 10-30 grams of marijuana and misdemeanor counts of possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, delivery of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana, and possession of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana.
n William I. Snow, 17, of 323 Central Place, delivery of 10-30 grams of marijuana and misdemeanor counts of possession of 10-30 grams of marijuana, delivery of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana, and possession of 2.5-10 grams of marijuana.
Carroll, Childers, Piper and Snow were being held Friday on $10,000 bond each. All will appear in court Nov. 4 for a preliminary hearing.
The minor was released to his parents.
Linscott already was in Lee County Jail on an unrelated drug charge. He was being held on $250,000 bond.
Germanson posted $300 Thursday and was given a notice to appear in court Nov. 25.
What’s the
origin of 420?
Despite popular belief, “420” is not police code for calls about cannabis.
The term, which is popular in the drug culture, was first coined in 1971 when a group of students in San Rafael High School in California would meet at a certain location every day at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana.
