I would like to thank the many people and organizations that helped the Mount Morris community garden, known as “A Prairie is My Garden,” come to fruition.

Many thanks to Pinecrest Foundation, which provided the fertile field; the University of Illinois Extension and Master Gardeners who lent their horticulture expertise; and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Ogle Chapter, for providing the start-up funds to purchase the needed supplies for “the garden a community built.”

Thank you to a local farmer, Mr. Strite, who broke the ground and tilled the soil with a huge tractor and disc; Dale Collins, who crafted a sign that raised the beds; and more than 20 volunteers who spread the mulch in “the garden a community built.”

We appreciate Eric Sundvall, who designed the garden; the many volunteers who planted the seeds, staked the tomatoes and beans; and Joan Sundvall, who tended to the flowers in “the garden a community built.”

We thank the village of Mount Morris for providing the water; and the Mount Morris Fire Department and Gerry Hough for hauling the water to the field that nourished the vegetables that grew and grew and grew in “the garden a community built.”

Thank you, Mount Morris Parks and Warren Long, for loaning two picnic tables to provide rest for the weary gardeners, and to Donald, Sue, Chasity, Mary and Eric, who picked baskets of vegetables that were given to families at Loaves and Fish Food Pantry by “the garden a community built.”
