OREGON – Fresh-baked apple pies and hot pork sandwiches will be on the menu Sunday at the Ogle County Pilots and Rock River Flyers third annual Pork ‘n’ Pie Dinner and Bid ‘n’ Buy Auction at Ogle County Airport, on state Route 64.

Participants are invited to fly in or drive in and enjoy conventional, experimental and home-built aircraft on display. Many of the planes are antiques, including a variety of “tail-draggers” hangared at the airport.

Dinner costs $10 and will include pork roasted over an oak wood fire, smoked baked beans, coleslaw, applesauce, a beverage and homemade pie with ice cream.

Fresh-picked apples from Gays Mills, Wis., and fresh packaged pork are among the auction items available.

“In addition to the food, we have office furniture, golf clubs, kitchen items, artwork by local artists, and so much more,” said Brenda Hayden, executive director of the Mount Morris Senior Center, which is sponsoring the event.

The “so much more” includes an original, one-of-a-kind carving of a flying porker, done by Mount Morris carver Harlan Baker.

Anyone who wants to donate auction items can call the center, 815-734-6335, to arrange a pickup. They should be like new or gently used, in good shape and/or good working condition.

Food will be served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; the auction begins at 1 p.m.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the senior center; dinner proceeds go to the Ogle County Airport, the county’s only privately supported public airport, which uses no tax dollars.

For dinner details, call 815-732-7268; for auction details, call 815-734-6335.
