Teacher resigns amid investigation

PROPHETSTOWN — High school science teacher David Alborn, under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with an underage girl, has submitted his resignation.
The Prophetstown-Lyndon-Tampico Community Unit School District 3 Board of Education will address the matter at a special meeting at 5:15 p.m. Monday.
Alborn was under surveillance since he was accused by a teenage girl more than 6 months ago of inappropriate electronic communications, the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department has revealed.
Detectives confiscated his work computer in September. Forensic experts at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office are examining it, but results might not be available for 6 weeks to 6 months, Deputy Andy Henson has said.
Alborn, also the district athletic director, has been on paid administrative leave since the equipment was seized 2 weeks ago, but he has not been charged with a crime.
Also Monday, the board will discuss hiring a new teacher and director.
District Superintendent David Rogers said this week that the administrative team had been covering the athletic director duties, but did not say who was handling Alborn’s teaching responsibilities during his absence.
A working phone number for Alborn could not be found.
The meeting will be held in the district’s administrative meeting room on state Route 78, a block from the high school.
