Elton Reigle

FORRESTON – Elton Hummel Reigle, 86, of Forreston, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at Pinecrest Manor, Mount Morris.

He was born Feb. 9, 1923, in Dixon, the son of Granville and Margaret (Hummel) Reigle. He married Beverly A. Hoffman on May 29, 1948, in Dixon.

He graduated from Dixon High School in 1941. He and served in the Army during World War II in the Southwest Pacific. He then farmed in the Forreston and Mount Morris areas until his retirement.

Elton was a member of Grace Fellowship Church, Freeport. He was formerly an active member of the Adeline United Brethren Church, where he served faithfully for many years as Sunday school teacher and on the church board.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly; one son, Melvin (Frances) Reigle of Oregon; two daughters, Barbara (William) Duncan of Monroe, Wis., and Susan (Randall) Swalve of Forreston; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three sisters, Marion Saunders and Betty (Richard) Kibble, both of Dixon, and Beulah Schumacher of Grand Detour; two brothers, Glen Reigle of Mount Morris and William (Mary) Reigle of Dixon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Charles, in infancy, Paul, and David Reigle; and two sisters, Dorothy Reigle and Lenore Siex.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bethel Evangelical Congregational Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Dave Anderson, pastor of Grace Fellowship Church, Freeport, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, Forreston, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Memorials have been established to Pinecrest Manor, Prison Fellowship and The Gideons International.
