Fun at the 4-H Fair: 4-H’ers compete 
in projects, shows

AMBOY – Local 4-H members waited in anticipation Friday as judges examined their cattle and projects at the Lee County 4-H Fair and Junior Show, held in Amboy.

The fair offers members an opportunity to enter a variety of categories, including everything from vegetables to sewing projects.

In the sewing category, Audrey Rod, 10, of Amboy, entered a matching dress and purse.

“I started studying sewing last year,” Audrey said. “I like the purse the most.” Audrey’s project won a best of show ribbon.

Taylor Corcoran, 15, of Amboy, entered the flower design category. She submitted a blue-and-yellow bouquet.

“I did the floral design because I thought it would be neat,” Taylor said.

Her floral design won a state fair alternative ribbon.

Jacob Yocan, 10, entered four different home-grown vegetables. All of his entries won a blue ribbon, the highest-ranking ribbon besides the champion ribbons.

“I chose vegetables because they were easy, and we learned a lot about them,” Jacob said.
