National retailer may be opening in Polo TIF

POLO – City officials are scheduled to revisit two lingering issues at Monday’s City Council meeting: engineering plans to correct a drainage problem on the south end of town, and tax incentives for retail developer MillCo Investments.

MillCo’s attorneys have said the deal will bring an undisclosed national retailer to the building on the 100 block of East Dixon Street that now houses the Fluff ‘N Fold coin laundry and two other businesses.

The deal MillCo seeks with the city will fold the developers into the tax increment financing district, which would alleviate the owners of property tax liability on improvements. MillCo and city officials hope to finalize their agreement Monday night.

The revised drainage plan, from city engineers Willett, Hofmann & Associates of Dixon, is aimed at eliminating temporary flooding and storm water runoff down Pleasant Street around Centennial Elementary School.

Heavy rains this spring resulted in blocked driveways in the low-lying area, with city crews repeatedly called to the same location.

Initial plans to alleviate the flooding called for a concrete retaining wall and underground piping, which would divert water into a nearby ditch, but the council rejected that design as likely ineffective and too expensive at $52,000.
