Roderick Geary

POLO – Roderick E. Geary, 92, of Polo, died Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at Polo Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. He owned and operated Geary Roofing for a number of years.

Mr. Geary was born Aug. 3, 1916, in Thompson, the son of Clinton and Emma (Roderick) Geary. He served in the Army during World War II with General Patton’s Third Army in Germany, assigned to the 702nd Tank Battalion of the 80th Infantry Division. He received an honorable discharge on Oct. 23, 1945. He married Ethna Savage on Sept. 15, 1951, in Chicago.

Survivors include his wife of Ireland; three daughters, Kathleen Geary of Polo and Winnetka, Tara (Kent) Rotherman of Peoria, and Brigid (Gary) Jones of Wickenburg, Ariz.; a son, Sean (Deb) Geary of Polo; two sisters, Lillian Geary-Forch of Polo and Chicago and Sarah Boze of Rock Falls; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Faye and George Geary; and three sisters, Camilla Carr, Yvette Frye, and Hilda Sarber.

Private service is at a later date. Arrangements were completed by Polo Family Funeral Home.

A memorial has been established to Ogle County Hospice.
