Kunde signs to golf at St. Ambrose
Recent Sterling graduate Josh Kunde will play golf next year at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, the school announced Thursday.
Kunde, the son of Bradley and Lorraine Kunde, was the Golden Warriors’ MVP last fall with a 37.7 scoring average. He was a first-team selection to the all-NCIC team after finishing third at the conference meet, and was a qualifier for the IHSA state meet.

Former champ Arguello found dead
MANAGUA, Nicaragua – Alexis Arguello, who fought in one of boxing’s most classic brawls and reigned supreme at 130 pounds, was found dead at his home early Wednesday.
Coroners were conducting an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Sandanista Party’s Radio Ya and other local media were reporting it appeared to be a suicide.
The La Prensa newspaper reported that Arguello – elected mayor of Nicaragua’s capital last year – was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Nicknamed “The Explosive Thin Man,” the 57-year-old Arguello retired in 1995 with a record of 82-8 with 65 knockouts and was a champion in three weight divisions. He was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1992.

Report: Coach didn’t break rules in death of high schooler
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A school system report released Wednesday on the heat-related death of a football player concluded a Louisville coach and his staff did not break any high school athletic rules, and found evidence the sophomore was ill with a headache and other symptoms before the practice.
The Jefferson County Public Schools report comes after the death of 15-year-old sophomore Max Gilpin, who collapsed while running sprints at the end of a preseason practice last August. He died three days later of septic shock, multiple organ failure and heat stroke.
Pleasure Ridge Park coach David Jason Stinson has been charged with reckless homicide in a rare criminal case of coach in a heat death. He has pleaded not guilty and a trial is set to begin Aug. 23.

Curry sues former agent/manager
CHICAGO – New York Knicks center Eddy Curry has filed a lawsuit against his former agent and business manager.
In a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Cook County Circuit Court, Curry alleges Lamont Carter failed to account for how much money he received and spent on Curry’s behalf.

Parker returns to practice with Sparks
EL SEGUNDO, Calif. – Candace Parker has returned to practice with the Los Angeles Sparks 1 1/2 months after giving birth to her first child.
However, coach Michael Cooper said Wednesday that it’s unlikely Parker would play when the team hosts Phoenix on Sunday.
Parker, last year’s league MVP and rookie of the year, had a daughter named Lailaa on May 13. She’s married to Shelden Williams of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Parker went through a full practice Wednesday following a light workout a day earlier that included shooting, ball handling and skill drills.
“It was great,” she said. “I was just really excited to practice so I treated it like a game almost because you miss it. I’ve been away from basketball for nine months, 10 months really, so it’s great to be back on the court.”
