Joyce A. Fortney

STERLING – Joyce A. Fortney, age 76, of Sterling, died Sunday, June 28, 2009, at her home.

Joyce was born Nov. 6, 1932, in Sterling, the daughter of Albert and Lula (Adams) Bellars. She married Robert R. Fortney on Dec. 4, 1948, in Silvis, and was a homemaker.

Survivors include three sons, Michael (Stella) Fortney of Sterling, Steve (Rose) Fortney of Sterling, and Patrick (Dee Dee) Fortney of Rock Falls; two sisters, June (Bill) Alber of Sterling and Ellen Bellars of Sterling; one brother, Wesley Bellars of Sterling; five grandchildren, Kelly Fortney of Sterling, Ryan (Laura) Fortney of Valparaiso, Ind., Stephanie Fortney of Aurora, Bailee Fortney of Rock Falls, and Madison Fortney of Rock Falls; and two great-grandchildren, Emma Fortney of Valparaiso, Ind., and Olivia Fortney of St. Charles.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters, Marilyn Segura and Carol Jean Westbo; and one brother, Russell Bellars.

Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Falls, with Dalmus Meeks, pastor of Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley.
