Dorothy Mae Root-Klies
PRINCETON – Dorothy M. Klies, 85, of Princeton, formerly of Sterling, died at 1 a.m. Sunday, June 28, 2009, at Perry Memorial Hospital, Princeton.
She was born April 28, 1924, to Charles and Irene Storms in Clinton, Iowa. She married Thomas Frank Root in 1947 in Sterling. They were divorced in 1970. She then married Walter Valentine Klies in 1990. He died in 2003.
She was a longtime resident of Sterling and Seymour, Conn. She attended Sterling schools, playing tennis and winning many awards. She was employed in numerous jobs, as well as being a homemaker and loving mother. She attended New Hope Church of the Nazarene, Princeton. At the time of her death, she was a resident of Liberty Village care facility, Princeton.
Surviving are one brother, William (Pearl) Storms of Sterling; two sons, Thomas F. (Laura) Root of Princeton and David N. (Joan) Willis of Rock Falls; one daughter, Carol (Ed) Haschak of Sterling; her grandchildren, Adam, Jason, and Andrew Root, Jim, Loretta, Rodney, and Eddie Harrington, and Tracy and Jamie Willis; several great-grandchildren; and special friends, “Chopper” and “Lola.”
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Charlie Storms and George Elsesser; and her sister, Eleanor.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at New Hope Church of the Nazarene, Princeton, with the Rev. Laura L. Root officiating. A luncheon will follow the services at the church. Arrangements were completed by McDonald Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Falls.
