LOGANDALE, Nev. – Ann Weidel, 94, while surrounded by loving family, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Mesa View Regional Hospital, Mesquite, Nev. Ann was born Jan. 7, 1915, in Tampico, the daughter of Andrew Kamiel and Mary Della (DeMay) Staelens. On Jan. 8, 1934, she married John Chauncey Thomson at St. Mary Church, Tampico. He passed away on Aug. 17, 1953. On Jan. 17, 1959, she married Edward Zeke Weidel in Las Vegas. He preceded her in death on March 16, 1989. Ann grew up in Illinois. She and her husband, with their three children, moved to Gardena, Calif. After her husband’s death, she was transferred to the Lancaster/Palmdale area of California by her employer, Northrup Aviation. She moved back to Illinois to care for her aging parents after her children were grown. She married “Zeke” and raised his two daughters. In later years, Ann worked until retirement as an aide for the mentally challenged at Dixon Developmental Center. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church, Dixon, and a member of the Women of the Moose. After Ann retired, she started wintering in Overton, Nev., with her daughter, Betty. Her hobbies included gardening and bowling. She excelled at both. Ann loved to eat chicken wings and popcorn while watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. Recently, she enjoyed some new adventures, including cruises with her family, riding in hot air balloons, and watching horse jumping competitions. She was deeply loved and was a great influence on all who were blessed to know her. Survivors include two daughters, Betty Hedger of Logandale, Nev., and Mary Lou (Donald) Hose of Dixon; two stepdaughters, Karen (Terry) O’Malley of Sterling and Marcia (Ray) Anderson of Littleton, Colo.; one brother, Hubert (Linda) Staelens of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Betty Puckett of Sterling; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Ann also was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, one son, and two stepsons. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary Church, Tampico, with the Rev. Louis Tosto, officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary Cemetery, Tampico. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A visitation also will be held June 27 at Moapa Valley Mortuary, Logandale, Nev. Condolences may be sent at schillingfuneralhome.com on the Internet. |
