 Sanders, Welder

Carl Sanders, 64, is a welder with E.D. Etnyre and Co., of Oregon, where he has worked for 46 years.

He lives in Franklin Grove with his wife, Joyce, 63. They have three children, Cheri Sheppard, 40, of Reston, Va., Jennifer Yingling, 37, of Polo, and Christina Kitson, 35, of Dixon, and three grandchildren, Kennedy Yingling, 7, Abigail Yingling, 5, and Nathaniel Yingling, 3, all of Polo. Carl has a brother, Neal Sanders, 67, of Franklin Grove; a sister, Fern Henn, 66, of Oswego.

On-the-job lesson: Patience.

Alma mater: I graduated in 1962 from Franklin Center High School, and took a year at Monmouth College.

Oughta be a law: There’d be a lower tax rate on 401Ks.

Hearts: Woodworking, golfing, traveling, “The Big Bang Theory.”

Darts: People with bad golf etiquette.

Haunts: The golf course.

Hero: Michael Jordan, Tiger Woods, and Pete Rose. They always gave 110 percent.

First job: I worked on a chicken farm near Franklin Grove when I was 16. I fed chickens and gathered and washed eggs. It was fun.

First car: A 1964 Pontiac LeMans convertible. I was 18.

Read this: A book on (football player) Brett Favre.

Guilty pleasure: Chocolate.

I’d like to meet: Jack Nicklaus.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Australia, New Zealand, South America, and Antarctica.

Best thing about Franklin Grove: It’s quiet.

Shout out: Kennedy and Abigail, my granddaughters.
