Charles Johnson

FRANKLIN GROVE – Charles Romaine “Charlie” Johnson, 86, of Franklin Grove, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at his home. He was a lifetime farmer and a real estate agent for Town and Country Real Estate Agency, Franklin Grove, for several years.

Charlie was born April 16, 1923, in Princeton, the son of Fred Romaine and Ada (Jontz) Johnson.

He married Harriet Louise (Howey) Tucker on April 7, 1968, at First Presbyterian Church, Franklin Grove. She preceded him in death on Dec. 7, 1998. Charlie was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Franklin Grove, Masonic Friendship Lodge No. 7 AF & AM, Scottish Rite in the Valley of Freeport, and Tebala Shrine, Rockford.

Survivors include one sister, Reva (William) Brierton of Franklin Grove; one brother, Burton (Ruth) Johnson of Princeton; two nephews, Thomas (Cynthia) Brierton of Lovettsville, Va., and Gary (Charlotte) Johnson of Bull Valley; one niece, Diana (Michael) Hartmann of Lakemoor; three grandnephews, Jett Hartmann, Benjamin Johnson, and Andrew (Sarah) Johnson; and three grandnieces, Paige Boogaard, Julia Boogaard, and Stephanie (Jacob) Epstein; and one great-grandniece, Alexandra Epstein.

He also was preceded in death by his parents.

The funeral is at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, with the Rev. Colleen Lawrence, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Franklin Grove, officiating.

Entombment is at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Dixon.

Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m.,  and a Masonic service at 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to KSB Hospice and Franklin Grove Fire Department.
