Sterling rallies to beat Moline

Dillon Stoner’s one-out infield single in the bottom of the seventh drove in Nate Asbury with the winning run Wednesday as Sterling topped Moline 8-7 at Gartner Park.

Asbury’s two-run double earlier in the inning allowed the Golden Warriors (17-13) to tie the score 7-7.

Grant Stewart homered, doubled, singled and had four RBIs to pace an 11-hit Sterling attack.

Nick Molina pitched 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief for the win.

Class 2A West
Carroll Regional

Milledgeville-Polo 13, Winnebago 3: Ryan Kram and Augie Forster doubled and drove in two runs as the Missiles advanced in the regional with a five-inning win in Savanna.

Michael Allspaugh (8-0) pitched four innings in the win. He allowed two runs (one earned) and five hits. Matt VanOosten added a pair of hits and two RBIs for Milledgeville-Polo (18-2).

The Missiles play West Carroll or Forreston in the regional final at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Class 1A Aquin Regional

Eastland 9, Aquin 4: Drew Carroll hit a two-run home run in the first inning and the Cougars never looked back in Freeport.

Ben Delp earned the win for Eastland.

The Cougars will play Dakota or Orangeville in the final at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Softball

Class 1A Ashton
Regional

Eastland 5, Kirkland 4: Maddi Landherr’s double scored Haylee Endress in the bottom of the seventh as the Cougars rallied from a run down to win in Ashton.

Bricelynn Meyers led off the seventh with a triple. Endress singled in Meyers to tie the score at four.

Marissa Endress struck out 12 and walked six for Eastland (20-10).

The Cougars will play top-seed Indian Creek in the final at 11 a.m. Saturday.
