Robert Greskiwcz

AMBOY – Robert “Bob” Greskiwcz, 67, of Amboy passed away Monday, May 18, 2009, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, after a sudden illness.

Bob was born April 26, 1942, in Mendota, the son of Leo and Darlene (Pfeifer) Greskiwcz. He married Marlene Boehle on Aug. 7, 1971, in Amboy.

Bob held a variety of jobs throughout his life. He made many friends as a farmer, hauling milk, working on cars, selling insurance, and selling farm implements with Boehle Implements Inc. No matter the job, he always found a way to interact with people and be a positive influence on those he served.

Bob was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandpa, and neighbor. He loved fishing, gardening, fixing anything and everything, welding, woodworking, cars, tractors, and talking with friends and family. To Bob, nobody stayed a stranger for long. He especially adored his four grandsons.

Bob was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, and Knights of Columbus Council 8277, of which he was recently elected to be the next grand knight. He was a former Lee County 4-H Center board member, coordinating the tractor pull for many years. Bob was a loyal servant to his church, his community, his neighborhood, and his family. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene of Amboy; three daughters, Lisa (Dustin) Smith, Lori (Ryan) Short, and Cindy Greskiwcz (Jason Hartzler), all of Normal; one son, Chad Greskiwcz of St. Louis; his mother, Darlene of Mendota; two sisters, Barb (Wayne) Pinter of Cherry and Bonnie (Bill) Bauer of Compton; four grandsons, Benjamin and Alex Smith and Brendan and Andrew Short, all of Normal; and several nieces and nephews. He was considered a father and grandpa to many others as well.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Greskiwcz.

Prayer service is at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home, Amboy, with the Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, with the Rev. Carl Beekman, pastor, officiating. Burial is at St. Patrick Cemetery, Amboy.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with the rosary recited at 8 p.m., Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials have been established to Teen Turf, St. Patrick Catholic Church, Amboy, or may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
