5K fundraiser to help impaired toddler

MILLEDGEVILLE – Two-year-old Troy Kendall, of Chadwick, has a disease that has yet to be named. Troy’s brain is underdeveloped, affecting his motor skills, his eyesight and his hearing.

All have improved, though, since he’s undergone 40 one-hour sessions in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber at the Wisconsin Integrative Hyperbaric Center (www.wisconsinhyperbarics.com) in Fitchburg, Wis., which also treats kids with autism.

Insurance, though, won’t cover the cost of hyperbaric treatment, which his parents, Jenn and  Corey Kendall, want to continue.

So, the Rev. Rick Koch, of Dutchtown Church of the Brethren, in Milledgeville, and Corrine Nye, director of the Milledgeville Park District, are organizing “Trekking for Troy and Kids with Autism,” a 5K run/walk Saturday at Milledgeville High School.

There will be a 200-yard fun run for children at 8:30 a.m., then the walk begins at 9. The cost to participate is $18 for ages 15 and older and $15 for children.

There also will be a bake sale, and raffles offering a $100 BP gas card, a $100 Visa gift card and a Longaberger basket.

Organizers have raised $4,500 of their $6,000 goal. The money will help pay for Troy’s medical costs and will help pay for autistic children to undergo the treatment.
