Warriors’ rally falls short; EP beats BV
Nate Asbury pitched six strong innings and ripped a pair of doubles, but it wasn’t enough to help the Sterling Golden Warriors on Monday in a 2-1 loss to Alleman in Rock Island.
Alleman scored both runs and had two of its six hits before the Warriors even got an out in the first inning, but Asbury (3-3) settled in and allowed only one Pioneer beyond first base the rest of the way. He had four strikeouts and walked one, allowing one earned run in six innings.
Dan Robinson drove in Drew Neubauer on a bases-loaded fielder’s choice in the third inning, but Sterling (14-11) couldn’t score again.
Erie-Prophetstown 7, Bureau Valley 4: Brandon Borkovec tripled twice, doubled and had four RBIs to lead the Panthers past the Storm in Manlius.
Eric Adcock was the winning pitcher. John King took the loss for Bureau Valley.
Dakota 6, Milledgeville-Polo 2: Robert Lizer allowed one earned run to lead the Indians past the Missiles in Dakota.
Kirk Engelkens took the loss for Milledgeville-Polo, allowing six runs (five earned), nine hits and two walks while striking out six. Matt Scholl and Luke Miller had RBIs for M-P.
Eastland 7, Pearl City 3: Zach Truckenmiller homered, doubled and had three RBIs to lead the Cougars at Lanark.
Tyler Zumdahl was the winning pitcher. He allowed four hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out eight.
Freeport Aquin 14, AFC 6: Four Raider pitchers were touched for 18 hits in a loss to the Bulldogs in Ashton.
Kyle McClanahan (2-4) took the loss, allowing eight runs (six earned), nine hits and one walk while striking out one in two innings.
Kris Bridgeman had three hits and two RBIs for AFC (4-13, 2-7 NUIC East).
