Know Your Neighbor: Michael Newendyke

Michael Newendyke, 31, of Rock Falls, works in sales, overseeing the furniture department at Knie Appliance and TV Inc., Sterling. He and his wife, Mackenzi, 30, have two sons, Dawson, 4, and Kellan, 1. Michael is the son of Richard and Lois Newendyke of Sterling. He has one brother, Tim Newendyke, 29, of Quincy; two sisters, Sarah and Emily, both of Sterling; two nieces and three nephews.

On-the-job lesson: Treat people well.

Alma mater: I graduated in 1995 from Faith Baptist School in Sterling.

Hearts: Playing with my kids and working on old cars. I have a 1978 Mustang King Cobra that doesn’t run. “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” on the Food Network.

Darts: Things beyond my control.

Haunts: Las Vegas. We go to Vegas a couple times a year.

Hero: Elvis Presley. I’m amazed by his life.

First job: I worked at County Market in Sterling when I was in high school. I was a stocker. I liked seeing different people every day.

First car: A 1980 Lincoln Mark VI. I was 16.

People say I look like: (Actor) Anthony Edwards.

Guilty pleasure: Dark chocolate.

I’d like to meet: Elvis.

In the dictionary next to: Drive. I’m a hard worker.

Trading places: I’d like to be one of my kids, just to be a kid for a day.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Holland. It’s where my ancestry’s from.

Best thing about Rock Falls: It’s a nice town to live in. There’s no trouble.
