Little bit o’ history - A free presentation on the history of the Dixon Assembly Building will be offered from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the Dixon Historic Center, 205 W. Fifth St.

Visitors can check out a 4-by-6-foot model, which started in 1899, as a site for religious education and ended 50 years later as a burned-down roller rink.

In addition to a lecture by the model’s designer and builders, there will be photographs of the original hall and paintings of the building by local artists.

The event is free.

Saturday’s
 Easter egg hunts - The Sterling Park District’s free Easter egg hunt is 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sauk Valley Community College for children up to age 8.

- The Coloma Township Park District and the Rock Falls Youth Council’s hunt also begins at 1:30 p.m. at Centennial Park; it’s for ages 3 to 8.

- The Tampico Lions Club’s Easter Egg Walk begins at 1 p.m. at Tampico Elementary School.

Passion Play - “The Mystery of the Passion of Christ” will be performed at 7 p.m. Saturday, 2 p.m. Palm Sunday, and 5 p.m. Good Friday at Centennial Auditorium, 1604 Fourth Ave.

A host of area actors, parish-ioners and friends, Catholics and non-Catholics alike, will help bring the Easter story to life.

Admission is free, but cash donations are being taken and will be used to benefit food pantries and other local charities.

Battle of the bands - Area high school rock bands will be battling to make dreams come true Saturday at Eastland High School in Lanark, site of Turning Point Productions’  “Fight For A Dream/Battle of the High School Rock Bands” fundraiser.

Competing artists include “Haley Dorsch,” “Everly,” “Infidel Castrones,” and “As Bees In Honey Drown.”

Tickets are $5 at the door, which opens at 5 p.m. Proceeds benefit the Illinois Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses.

The event is billed as appropriate for all ages, and food and beverages will be available.

Breakfast
 for a cause - Everyone loves a traditional Sunday morning breakfast. This weekend, you can indulge your appetite and help those who could use a helping hand.

St. Mary’s Parish Center, 600 Ave. B, Sterling, is serving breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. The $6.50 tab will be donated to Twin City PADS Homeless Shelter.
