Know Your Neighbor: Kelley Snyder, Teacher

Kelley Snyder, 39, teaches physical education and health to Ashton-Franklin Center fifth- through 10th-graders. She lives in Grand Detour with her husband, Sean Snyder, 40, and their son, Dax, 3. Kelley is the daughter of Paul and Nancy Kaczmarzyk of Oregon. She has two sisters, Sandy Jansen, 54, of Mount Morris and Shelley Rhea, 46, of Oregon; a brother, Randy Kaczmarzyk, 50, of Davis Junction; six nieces; and a nephew.

On-the-job lesson: Laugh every day.

Alma mater: I graduated in 1987 from Oregon High School. I got my degree in horticulture and an associate degree in science from Kishwaukee College, and an associate degree in health and a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education from Northern Illinois University.

Philosophy: What you do today will reflect what happens tomorrow.

Hearts: Snowmobiling, boating, playing with my son, exercising.

Haunts: On the river. I like the outdoors.

Hero: My dad. I respect his morals. He has a strong faith.

First job: I bused tables at Maxson Manor in Oregon. I was 14 or 15. I liked it. I enjoyed meeting new people.

First car: An Oldsmobile Delta 88 four-door.

People say I look like: Helen Hunt.

Guilty pleasure: Sleep.

I’d like to meet: Mother Teresa.

In the dictionary next to: Nuts. I’m always playing jokes.

Trading places: I’d like to be someone who’s autistic, to see what their world is like.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Poland. I’m 100 percent Polish.

Best thing about Grand Detour: The neighbors watch out for each other.
