Student of the Month: Amanda Hopkins, Amboy

Amanda Hopkins, 17, is Amboy High School’s February student of the month. She lives in Amboy with her parents, Tim and Deb Hopkins. She has one brother, Adam Hopkins, 20, who is attending the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

Extracurricular: Key Club, National Honor Society, Spanish National Honor Society, cheerleading, camp counselor, chorus.

After graduation: I’m going to Sauk Valley Community College for 2 years, then transferring to a 4-year college. I want to study elementary
education.

Paycheck: I work at Dixon Food Center, as a cashier. During the summer, I work at Woodhaven Lakes in Sublette, scooping ice cream.

BFFs: Mallory Whechel and Maggie McConville. They are very funny and fun to hang out with.

Hearts: I love to scrapbook and hang out with my friends. I like to play Frisbee. I love any kind of potatoes.

Darts: Losing a loved one. Spanish 4 (It’s on the Internet). People who aren’t themselves. I don’t like heavy metal music.

Survival guide: Keep up with your homework, ask teachers for help, and study.

Useless knowledge: Logarithms.

I’m in the dictionary next to: Bubbly, because of my personality.

Dream job: I’d like to be a lion trainer.

Trading places: I’d like to be Maggie McConville.

Trading spaces: I’d like to visit Ireland. I am Irish and it is a beautiful place. It would be nice to find out more about my heritage.

Read this: “Just Listen,” by Sarah Dessen. It’s about a high school girl with problems. It kept me interested and shows that nobody has a perfect life.

Shout out to: My parents and my boyfriend, Chris Greenwalt. I love you guys.
