Home of Hope to open office in Ogle CountyBy Joseph Bustosjbustos@svnmail.com800-798-4085, ext. 529DIXON - With one-fifth of the Home of Hope's clients coming from Ogle County, the cancer-support center thought it was time to open a small office in Oregon. The Home of Hope's Oregon office, located at 1030 Pines Road, will be open only 2 or 3 days a week, with four staff members rotating in and out. The Oregon office will open on Jan. 5. Home of Hope offers free educational, wellness and counseling programs for people with cancer and their family members. Services at the Oregon office will be similar to the services offered at the Dixon office, but on a smaller scale, said Kathleen Hughes, Home of Hope's executive director. "I feel there's a need to reach out, and do more outreach to that area," Hughes said. About 20 percent of the Home of Hope's 500 clients come from Ogle County, Hughes said. "Rural areas are really under served when it comes to cancer wellness," Hughes said. To help with this expansion, Home of Hope applied for and received a $20,000 grant from the Chicago-based Coleman Foundation. The Coleman Foundation provides grants to organizations that provide cancer care, services to the disabled and to schools that have innovative programs for under-served populations. The $20,000 will be added to the Home of Hope's annual budget of about $165,000. Beyond grants, the center receives funding from KSB, CGH Medical Center, the Northern Illinois Cancer Treatment Center and the United Ways of Whiteside, Lee and Ogle County.
