MILLEDGEVILLE - A fire destroyed the operations building at the Hazelhurst Elevator shortly after 2 a.m. Monday. Twenty-five to 30 firefighters from eight departments worked to extinguish the blaze and keep it from spreading to nearby buildings, Milledgeville Fire Chief David Folk said. The fire marshal is investigating the cause, but said it probably was an electrical fire, Folk said. The building, formerly a grain mill, is owned by Scott Tegeler of Milledgeville, a farmer who stores grain on-site, the chief said. Also responding were Polo, Lanark, Coleta, Chadwick, Shannon, Sterling and Rock Falls fire departments, and a CGH Medical Center ambulance.
