FULTON - An early morning house fire today at 613 Second Ave. claimed the life of a woman. Barb Faulkner, 60, who was asleep at the time of the fire, died at Mercy Medical Center in Iowa, confirmed Police Chief Don Damhoff. Her husband Craig was able to escape the house and was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Damhoff said the fire originated in the basement of the couple's two-story home and caused smoke to rise to the main floor of the house. The fire department was called at 2:35 a.m., and left the scene at 6:33 a.m. The fire is under investigation by the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
