DIXON - William D. Rumph, 68, of Dixon, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2008, at his home. He was employed by Miller-Jones Shoe Co. from 1963 to 1975, and then by Walter C. Knack Co., Dixon, from 1975 to his retirement. William was born Dec. 28, 1939, in Spring Grove, Minn., the son of Oscar and Jeannie (McGeough) Rumph. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1960 in West Germany. William married Grace I. Thompson on Oct. 28, 1961, in Des Moines, Iowa. She preceded him in death on Feb. 7, 2004. He was a longtime member of Sauk Valley Striders Running Club. Survivors include three sons, Jerald (Peggy) Rumph of St. Louis, Jeffery (Charlene) Rumph of Dixon, and Matthew (Lisa) Rumph of Stroudsburg, Pa.; one daughter, Laura Rumph of Delavan, Wis.; one sister, Joan (Bill) McDonald of Sauk Centre, Minn.; and 10 grandchildren, Hillary, Nathan, Kyle, Justin, Katelyn, Brittany, Briannah, Rachael, Joshua, and Zachary. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Jacob Ryan Rumph. Mass of Christian Burial is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Dixon, with the Rev. James Keenan, pastor, officiating. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery, Dixon. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 8 p.m., Friday at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon.
