Dixon Direct to add 30 jobs

DIXON - As one door closes, a new one opens. The shutdown of a local printing company's Tennessee plant will add 30 to 40 new jobs in Dixon, said Bill Hoffman, Dixon Direct's vice president. The company, which specializes in direct-mail inserts such as fragrance samples - those little perfume-scented strips found in magazines - is "consolidating one of our facilities down in Chattanooga," Hoffman said. Operation there will cease Nov. 14, and the plant's workload will shift to the Dixon facility at 1226 W. Seventh St. The 30-plus positions created by the consolidation will be filled by local workers sometime during 2009, Hoffman said. He and Mayor Jim Burke were scheduled to make the announcement today at a 9 a.m. press conference. "We've had some economic hits in Dixon and Lee County in the last year or so," Burke said. "I thought this was a chance to give some good news to the community."
