Brown, Rockets finish fourth at Lincoln meetBy SVN Sports StaffTanner Brown finished fourth individually and the Rock Falls Rockets took fourth as a team at the NCIC Lincoln golf meet Thursday afternoon at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley. Brown's 7-over par 80 was good enough for a three-way tie for second, but IVC's Alex Koch and Hall's Adam Doll beat out Brown in a scorecard playoff. Josh Arthurs (80), Lirim Lecaj (87) and Trevin Hippen (91) also contributed to Rock Falls' team score of 342, 12 strokes behind winner Hall. Mendota was second at 332 and IVC one shot higher (333) in third. Mendota's Jon Zinke took home medalist honors with a 79. NUIC meet: Pecatonica's Zac Kloster beat Eastland's Drew Carroll on a playoff hole to earn medalist honors at the NUIC meet at Woodbine Bend Golf Course in Stockton. Kloster and Carroll shot matching 3-over par 75s over 18 holes, then Kloster scored a par-4 on the first playoff hole while Carroll carded a bogey. Forreston's Austin Heinz (79) finished fourth and teammates Mike Johnson and Austin LeClere tied for eighth at 82. Josh Faivre and Griffin Buck led Polo with matching 91s, and Garret Badtke led West Carroll with a 96. Eastland-Milledgeville's Haley Knutti placed second in the girls portion of the meet, firing a 94 to finish three shots behind River Ridge's Kelsey Dascher. Knutti's teammate Katie Schipkowski placed fifth (103) and Polo's Megan Patterson (107) tied for eighth. Hinckley-Big Rock 189, Amboy 204: Colton Craig's 2-over par 38 led Hinckley-Big Rock past the Clippers in a nonconference dual meet at Shady Oaks Country Club. Justin Burke led Amboy with a 48, Josh Burke added a 51 and Derek Flessner (52) and Ben Daszkiewicz (53) also factored into Amboy's team score. Prophetstown 161, Sherrard 165, Wethersfield 184: Sherrard's Trevor Leinbach was the medalist at Deer Valley Country Club with an even-par 36, but Prophetstown's depth proved to be the difference. Drew Wiersema led the Prophets (17-5) with a 2-over 38, and Brandon Roman (40), Kory Sommers (41) and Ethan Ward (42) all shot lower than the three Sherrard golfers who finished with 43s. Girls tennis Sterling 7, Mendota 2: The Warriors played a lot of new faces in the singles portion of the meet, getting wins from four seniors before sweeping the doubles matches. Bari Reynolds, Meghan Schultz, Melissa Jones and Mallory Sisson all won in singles, while senior Allison Ramirez and junior Allyson Ansusinha lost their matches. The three doubles teams all played in their usual spots. Dixon 9, Streator 0: The Duchesses swept an NCIC match on the road, led by double winners Thea Baldwin, Mary Bratt, Jennifer Guenther and Mandy Kent. Sadie Bratt and Vivian McConnell won at the top two singles spots and Tess Ginn and Megan Schrock won at No. 3 doubles for Dixon (12-1, 6-0). Newman 7, LaSalle-Peru 1: Katie Kipping and Alex Mahan each won twice for the Comets in a dual meet victory at Sauk Valley Community College. Gretta Hermes, Marissa Slater and Chelsea DePasquale added singles wins for Newman (8-4). The No. 1 doubles match was called due to darkness with Hermes and Slater up one set. Boys cross country Newman wins Princeton Invite: For the first time all season, Dylan Reyes beat teammate Jake Trancoso, and Dylan Harkness' 16th-place finish put the Comets over the top in the makeup version of the Princeton Invite. Reyes covered the 3-mile course at City-County Park in 15:59.6, 1.3 seconds faster than Trancoso. Eric Farringer finished 11th (17:07.7) and Harkness (17:21.8) passed Bureau Valley's Trent Johnson at the end to ensure Newman's two-point victory over the Storm (49-51). Derrick Johnson (16:37.9), Tevis Mott (16:45.1), Nate DeVenney (16:52.9) and Joseph VonHolten (17:01.3) finished 7-8-9-10 for BV, and Trent Johnson placed 17th (17:23.7). Dixon also competed, holding out its top runners for the second straight meet and finishing sixth (126 points). Aaron Grady (17:40.3) and Spencer Hill (17:41.5) led the Dukes by finishing 20th and 21st. Girls cross country Newman wins Princeton Invite: Comets freshman Emilie Barton is officially back to 100 percent after being ill the past few weeks, and she easily won the Princeton Invite makeup race at City-County Park. Barton covered the 3-mile course in 19:37.0, well ahead of runner-up Haley Sack of Mendota (19:58.1) and Newman teammate Amanda Trancoso (20:14.0). Newman easily beat Mendota for the team title, 39-83. Amboy's Courtney Olson placed 10th in 21:18.0, and teammate Anna Ruchti finished in the 28th spot (23:00.7). Bureau Valley fielded a full team, placing seventh with 123 points. Cassie Olson (20th, 22:19.1) and Cassie Criminger (29th, 23:16.7) led the way for the Storm. |
