Know Your Neighbor: Cody Cutter, Sportswriter

Cody Cutter, 22, of Sterling, writes for the Northern Illinois Sports Beat, a Web publication, and is a cashier at Shell Express Lane in Sterling. He is the son of Jeff and Lisa Cutter, of Sterling, and has a sister, Diana, 24, and three brothers, Michael, 20, Christopher, 17, and Daniel, 16. On-the-job lesson: I have learned to communicate well with others. Alma mater: Sterling High School, 2005, and am taking journalism classes at Highland Community College in Freeport. Philosophy: Quality is better than quantity. Hearts: I like going to high school sports events. My hobby is Web site publishing. I enjoy spending time with high school sports fans and sportswriters. I like watching "Around The Horn," a sports debate show on ESPN. Darts: I don't like to do anything negative. People belittling others makes my blood boil. Haunts: I like to spend time at high school sports events. I'm around people who have the same interest as me. Hero: My family. They are always there for me. First job: I was a content manager, photographer, cinematographer and sportswriter for Prep Sports Online. I was 17. Read this: "100 Years of Madness," by Scott Johnson, Curt Herron, Pat Heston, Jeff Lampe and Bob Leavitt. The book is about the boys' state basketball tournament in Illinois. It's very informative. Phobias: Heights. Guilty pleasure: Junk food. I'd like to meet: Jay Mariotti, a former sportswriter for the Chicago Sun-Times. In the dictionary next to: Encyclopedia. Trading places: I'd like to be Steve Tucker, a sportswriter with the Chicago Sun-Times, so I could oversee the largest high school coverage area in the state.
