Sterling girls tennis tops Princetonby svn sports staffEllen Benson, Mariah Bardo and Rachel Pashon each won singles and doubles matches to lead the Sterling tennis team to a 6-3 victory against Princeton on Monday in Sterling. Also for the Golden Warriors (7-1), Bari Reynolds won in singles and Victoria Packer teamed with Pashon for a doubles win. Newman 8, Galesburg 1: Katie Kipping, Alex Mahan, Gretta Hermes and Marissa Slater each won singles and doubles matches as the Comets beat the Silver Streaks in Galesburg. Also for Newman (5-3), Chelsea DePasquale and Ellie Jo LaFever won singles matches. Boys golf Dixon 154, Rochelle 155, Sterling 170: Joel Kipping birdied the last two holes on his way to a 1-under-par 35 to lead the Dukes past the Hubs and Golden Warriors in a match played at Rochelle Country Club. Also for the Dukes, Caleb Bradley had 39 and Mitch Homb and Austin Dillon added 40s. Thomas Brennan and John Crystal carded 38s to lead Rochelle. For Sterling, Josh Kunde had a 36. Newman 160, Rock Falls 173, Morrison 218: Matt Hageman's even-par 35 led the Comets to a win at Emerald Hill golf course in Sterling. Stephen Wilson added a 38 for the Comets. Tanner Brown was low for Rock Falls with 41. Landon Nelson had 44 for Morrison. Prophetstown 164, Riverdale 186: Drew Wiersema's 3-over-par 39 led the Prophets past the Rams at Deer Valley Country Club. Also for Prophetstown, Ethan Ward and Jarod Smith each had 40s. Kelby Kindelsperger led Riverdale with 44. Erie 171, Orion 181, Galva 190: Beau Kirkpatrick's 1-over-par 37 led the Cardinals to a win at Lake Erie Country Club. Tauge Rux of Galva and Lucas Grymonprez of Orion led their teams with 42s. Lena-Winslow 163, Forreston 181: Mike Johnson earned medalist honors with a 2-over-par 38, but the Cardinals fell to the Panthers at Wolf Hollow golf course. Jase Baldauf and Seth Cory each had 39s for Lena-Winslow. Girls golf Sterling 178, Freeport 199, Princeton 209: Ember Schuldt's even-par 36 led the Golden Warriors to a win at Emerald Hill golf course. Also for Sterling, Megan Vandersee had a 44 and Alicia Berogan added a 48. Indian Creek 192, Prophetstown 218: Jasmine Anderson carded a 13-over-par 48 for the Prophets in a home loss to the Timberwolves. The medalist was Indian Creek's Lindsay Richardson with a 41. Volleyball Oregon def. Byron 23-25, 25-18, 27-25: Erica Egyed had 27 digs and seven aces to lead the Hawks past the Tigers in Byron. Also for Oregon (9-3, 2-0 Big Northern West), Libby Herriot had 19 assists, and Carissa Oelke had 14 kills. Karissa Groharing led Byron with six kills and four aces. Riverdale def. Prophetstown 23-25, 25-10, 25-18: Taylor Gallentine had 15 digs, 13 kills, three blocks and three aces for the Prophets in a loss to the Rams.
