Know Your Neighbor: Michael Mohr, Resource coordinator

Michael, 27, is a resource coordinator at Northwestern Illinois Center for Independent Living in Rock Falls, where he helps other people with disabilities. He is the son of Scott and Cherie Mohr of Sterling. On-the-job lesson: Living my life with a disability (cerebral palsy) is much easier compared to other people. Alma mater: Sterling High School, 1999. Bachelor's degree in sports management from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, master's in education - human services at Southern Illinois University. Philosophy: I really try to enjoy life. You can always find something positive. Hearts: Sports, attending sporting events, poker, reading, "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" on HBO, and the Discovery Channel. Haunts: Sterling YMCA. Hero: My parents. They always gave me opportunities to be successful. First job: I worked at the Equal Opportunities Employment office in the Rock Island Arsenal when I was 21. It was a good experience. It was a really diverse environment. Read this: "No Excuses," by Kyle Maynard. He was a young man with no legs who became a wrestler. Phobias: Snakes. I'd like to meet: Martin Luther King Jr. In the dictionary next to: Motivated. I don't let any one thing me slow down too much.
