PORTLAND, Ore. – Fourteen hours after their championship dreams ended, the Sterling 11-and 12-year-old All-Stars were back on the field at Alpenrose Stadium for the third-place game of the Little League Softball World Series. The Warriors put defeat behind them and topped Latin America Regional champ Puerto Rico 3-2 to finish third-best in the world in Little League Softball. Mackenzie Staples, who was picked off second in the sixth inning of Tuesday's semifinal loss to Robbinsville, N.J., stole home for the go-ahead run in the fifth inning Wednesday. Stephanie Kester pitched a complete game to earn the victory. The team returns home Thursday and will be honored with a parade starting at 5:30 p.m. at Sterling High School. For complete World Series coverage, pick up a copy of Thursday's Gazette or Telegraph. Little League Softball World Series Third place Sterling, 3, Latin America 2
