A benefit is being held Saturday for a longtime Scouting volunteer battling stomach cancer. Al Goodwin, a former Cubmaster of Rock Falls Cub Scout Pack 323 and now a volunteer ranger for the Boy Scout's Camp Lowden near Oregon and an assistant Scoutmaster for a Rochelle troop, was diagnosed in October and has undergone chemotherapy, said his wife, Debbie Goodwin. The benefit, featuring cotton candy and snow cones, 50-cent games for children, silent auctions, a bake sale, and a Native American jewelry sale, is noon to 4 p.m. at Harvest Time Bible Church, 1802 Dixon Road, in Rock Falls. There also will be an open-class pinewood derby; the entry fee is $5. An account also has been established at U.S. Bank in Rock Falls; make checks payable to the Al Goodwin benefit. For more information, call Lisa White, (815) 632-8586, or Angie Valenzuela, (815) 535-1075.
