Oregon wrestlers take title at Polo Invite

BY SVS SPORTS STAFF Brad Kaskavage and Brian Snyder shared outstanding wrestler honors Saturday while leading Oregon to the title at the Polo Invite. Kaskavage (135 pounds), Snyder (189) and Danny Gale (171) won individual titles for the Hawks, whose 198 points edged Glenbard North's 196 in the 14-team event. Mikey Brink (103), Mychal Messenger (130) and Ryan McWethy (160) finished second for Oregon. Jon Harris led Fulton to a fourth-place finish with a 103 title. Harris, the top-ranked 103-pounder in Class A, was one of two wrestlers to win his championship match by pin. Erie-Prophetstown's Matt Cole won the 199 title, and Matt McIntyre of West Carroll won at 140. The Thunder finished seventh, with Morrison eighth, Polo ninth and E-P 11th. West Carroll's Josh McLuckie (125) and Nick Law (215) finished second in their class, as did Fulton's Evan Banks (152), Nick Wierenga (171) and Jared Kuebel (189). Mitch Hood (103) and Jacob LaMarche (145) led Morrison with third-place efforts, matched by Polo's Scott Powell (140) and Jake Peterson (215). AFC 0-3 at home: The Raiders fell to Durand 24-21, Kewanee 48-30 and Aledo 38-21 at Ashton. Logan Meurer (125 pounds) and Jorden Lahman (130) each won three times for AFC, with Meurer winning by major decison, decision and forfeit and Lahman adding a pin to a pair opf forfeits. Will Henert picked up a pair of pins at 160, Kyle Bridgeman (171) won by decision and major decision and Jared McCannon won twice by pin at 215. Pat Roberson (160) added a pin against Aledo and Brian Gross won by major decision against Kewanee. Boys Bowling Dixon Toughman tournament: Freeport totaled 5,669 pins to win the tournament at Plum Hollow by 43 pins over Brother Rice and 121 over Winnebago. Dixon finished 13th in the 14-team field, with a pinfall of 4,812. Chad Bahr led the way with a 535 series and a 210 high game, while Blake Zacharias (518 series), Garrett Henson (515) and Conor Clark (505) all rolled in the 500s.
