Holiday history to come alive at Dillon home

BY GAZETTE STAFF

Visitors to the historic Dillon Home this weekend will be treated to a tour of the home decorated in all its Christmas grandeur, as well as a walk through holiday seasons past at the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society located on the grounds at Third Street and Broadway, in Sterling.

On Dec. 7, 8 and 9, the historical society will host an open house during which visitors can tour the carriage house of the Dillon Home, which will be decorated with historic local Christmas decorations.

During the event, David Badger, a Havana, Illinois artist will sign books for his latest collection of sketches, this one dedicated to the architecture of the Dillon home, titled: "The Dillon Home Museum of Sterling, Illinois."

"It is well done, it focuses on the individual features of the building and has a nice history," said Terry Buckaloo, curator of the Sterling-Rock Falls Historical Society.

Previously released books of area sketches will be sold as well including, "Sterling of Illinois," books one and two, and "Rock Falls of Illinois." Each spiral bound book features 35 pen and ink drawings of historic structures in Sterling and Rock Falls.

The Christmas Past event will be Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

On Sunday, the open house will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and Badger will sign books on Saturday and Sunday. Books will be available for $15 each.
