BY GAZETTE STAFF A benefit poker run for a Sterling woman who recently underwent brain and heart surgeries is being held Saturday. Tina Popejoy, 48, "had a non-cancerous tumor on the brain," organizer Rosa Barb said. "It was causing massive headaches. She also had some kind of blockage in her heart. She didn't have insurance." Her friends want to help her with expenses, especially since Tina, a former Lawrence Brothers employee, has done a lot of volunteer benefits herself, Barb said. Cars, trucks, vans, motorcycles and other vehicles are welcome to participate in the poker run. Cost is $10. Sign-up is 10 a.m. to noon at the Rock River Lounge, 219 W. Second St., in Rock Falls. "It starts at Rock Falls and travels through Dixon, Amboy, Walnut, Deer Grove, Tampico, and back to Rock Falls," Barb said. After the poker run, the benefit will continue at Skybox Sports Bar, 1118 E. Rock Falls Road (U.S. Route 30), in Rock Falls. There will be a 50/50 drawing, and a Chevrolet jacket and other items will be raffled. There also will be door prizes and chili. Those who don't participate in the poker run can pay $10 at the Skybox. For more information, call (815) 590-7500.
