Clarification from Aug. 19

Text Size: AaAaAaAaAa

Parents who homeschool their children are encouraged, but not required, to register their children with the Lee/Ogle Regional Office of Education. When the regional office receives a call reporting children not in school during school hours, staff investigates. When a home-schooled student is registered, the investigation ends. In addition, the office sends information to registered home-schooled students, inviting them to participate in a homeschool spelling bee every February, which allows them to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee. For more information on the rights and responsibilities of homeschooling, visit the Web site at www.isbe.net/HomeSchool/default.htm. This information was unclear in the Aug. 19 paper.
