Sterling awards its last street contract

BY JOSEPH BUSTOS SVN REPORTER jbustos@svnmail.com STERLING - The City Council Monday awarded its third street contract of the year to Northwest Illinois, which will finish paving this summer's street projects for $314,000. The city awarded project components, such as excavating, paving and filling in cracks in the road, separately this year, rather than as an entire street project. The work is on time and should be completed by Oct. 31, City Manager Jay Wieland said. When the construction season is finished, the city will have spent about $850,000 on street repairs, all paid for with money from the local option sales tax voters approved in 2004, Wieland said. Work has been done on West Fifth Street from Avenue G to L; East 12th Street from First to Third Avenue; Eighth Avenue from East 13th Street to LeFevre; Sinnissippi Park Road from Asbury Avenue to the city limits; Asbury Avenue from Sinnissippi Park Road to Windsor Drive; and Second Avenue from 200 feet south of Second Street to Fourth Street.
